Back in Idaho! Twin Falls

Back to Idaho!

Beautiful rest stop spot for lunch, overlooking the Snake River.

Shoshone Falls, known as the Niagara of the west. Drops 212 feet, 52 feet more than Niagara.

They are doing some construction now and have diverted the river. That is where that bridge looking spot is here.

Yes it's warm! Shorts again!

Normally the falls go all the way across here, and there is a ton of water flowing.

This is what it would look like without the diversion.

Perraine Bridge, 486' above the Snake River. The South side is where Evel Knieval tried to make his jump across the Snake. His parachute malfunctioned and he landed below in the grass.

We watched about 7 base jumpers leap from this bridge. Most landed in the grass with a couple in the water. Can you imagine this being legal in CA? or is it?

A very nice information center is at this site. This note is posted on the window...

Amazing shot (I photographed it inside the info center).
Off we go to Nevada now...We might not have wifi for a while, so if no posts, that is why!)

Time in Jackson Hole, Wy.

Our first view of the Tetons and the best view we had. The weather was still raining and high was 54!

We had part of the day full of sun, so off we went to explore downtown.  Jackson has many beautiful galleries.

Mom with Abe Lincoln.

Me with Mark Twain and kids.

The square has an arch of antlers on all 4 corners.

We went to this Million Dollar Cowboy Bar for a nite on the town.

Mom & I on saddle bar seats before the dance lessons begin.

Our campsite in the Grand Tetons.

Leaving Jackson and look at that sky!

This is just getting in to town, Jackson, Wy.

Awww Idaho! Temps are heading up...it was 82 at 5:00 tonight.
We also stopped for a quick trip in to a casino...Mom and I both came out with a little more money.
We are in Twin Falls, Idaho now.

Yellowstone ramblings...and sites...

Looks like the Dragon is really in there breathing out.

Bison crossing the river.

First Bison jam!

Mama grizzly with 2 cubs having a snack

A bison herd in the meadow.

Coyote crossed the road.

Travertine terraces. Colors are from different types of thermophiles. Hot water is running throughout this area and building up the terraces.

Elk in the Fort Yellowstone area. Fort was built to protect the park before the forest service was started, the army protected it back then.

This is the view from Artist Point, lower falls. This is a spectacular sight.

This day was awesome. The first rainbow we were marveling at as it was on the ground and going across the river, then the second one showed. They were complete rainbows too. Beautiful!!

View as you approach a thermal area.

Bison jam.

One of the many calves we saw in buffalo heards.

This guy was deciding whether to cross the road or not, and you must give them right of way. So, slowly we passed.

Pretty amazing that we have this right  in our country.

The beginning of Old Faithful!

Entry to this beautiful lodge.

Inside the lodge.

Thermal pools boiling away. The water is  a beautiful shade of aqua blue.

Jack trying a little fly fishing.

Mom and calf.

These crazy people. Wish you could see how long their lenses were. There is a bear way out there, just crossing the river. He was heading toward everyone.

Here he is coming toward everyone. All were running and the ranger yelling "get in your cars". Some of those crazy photographers just tried to move to another position.

Grand canyon of Yellowstone.

I did take this picture. I know it doesn't look like it. Inspiring. It started hailing on us and we made a fast walk back to the car.

Across Yellowstone Lake.

Mom and I having a hot drink in the Yellowstone Hotel.

Jack having a cold drink, same hotel. This place was the first hotel in Yellowstone, built in the early 1900's. Most recently remodeled in 2014. I think I like it the best. Not very rustic, very elegant. Those windows look out over the lake, what a view.

Fireplace in the Yellowstone Hotel.

Last night in Yellowstone, Mom and I went in search of animals about 6:30 pm. There was crowd on the road here looking at the bull elk.

This is the campground at Fishing Bridge. Pretty close together, no picnic tables or fire rings, but full hook ups. Only campground in whole park with hook ups. Due to the temperatures being in the 30's at night we wanted electricity to run our portable heaters.

We ran in to the Frapier family traveling in some of the same areas we were. This is our friends John & Lori Bond's daughter and family. So fun. Leah and Henry off for showers and laundry. We both commented we weren't ready for the camera, we are camping.

Last photo I took leaving the park. These trees are regrowth from the 1988 fires.
Ok those are the highlights from Yellowstone...just a taste because we saw so much there in our 5 days.
