Montana roaming

We went to Fort Missoula. In 1888 this fort was home to the Buffalo Soldiers. Fort Missoula also had a unit that tested the practicality of soldiers traveling by bicycles, numerous training rides, with one ride all the way to St. Louis, Missouri
During World War II, Fort Missoula housed a prison camp for Italian POWs, who called the area Bella Vista, and Japanese Americans arrested as "enemy aliens" after Pearl Harbor.

At the fort there is also a fire lookout. Jack and I climbed up and looked around. In the distance there was a prescribed burn we could see from the lookout.

An inside view of the tower.

Lots of old equipment for logging is on display here.

Inside the teepee burner.

This was called a teepee burner or bee hive burner. It was used to burn waste wood products.

This was pulled by Belgian  draft horses to move very large logs.

Clinton, Montana has a "Testicle Festival"  every year...in case you are interested, here is the billboard showing the dates!!!

We stopped in Drummond for gas...this was across the street.

Campground in Garrison, Mt. Jim & Mary's RV. See the little rhino with the snow shovel. They had snow the weekend before we were there.

Dogs water that was left out that night...38 in the morning.

We keep passing casinos. About every corner  and gas station has one.
Next stop was Helena, the state capital. This was a lovely Catholic church we drove by on our way to the capital.

Inside the capital dome.

We visited the Governors formal reception room.

Quilts hanging in the capital offices.

Looking up at the dome. 4 circular paintings depicting the different citizens of Montana.

I believe I read that the stained glass here, which was beautiful, was brought from Germany.

I couldn't find a state seal in the floor anywhere, like all the other capitals have, this one was on a podium.
