History travels

After spending the night in the casino parking lot, we were up and off to Custer Battlefield. This was just up the hill from the casino. They have a 25 min. film to watch explaining what happened and why the battle took place. It helped me understand better what took place. It was the biggest Indian gathering and such a small amount of soldiers to attack them. Quite a story. There is a phone audio tour, free. That was great. Dial a number, select the number of what you are looking at and they talk you thru it.

These monuments are placed all over the hillsides where there was evidence of a soldier falling.
This is also a National Cemetery. Burials here from 1876 thru the Vietnam war.

The red granite headstones are for the fallen Indians from this war.

Looking down into the valley and the river where a lot of the battle took place.

Memorial to soldiers and Indian scouts.

Below is the Indian Memorial. Beautifully done.

Next we moved on down the road. We stopped in Buffalo, Wy. Rv park recommended we check out the Occidental Hotel for the evening. Every Thurs. night they have a jam session. We headed over there and had dinner and stayed for the music. I think there were about 7 regular musicians on stage and they have chairs set up for set in players.
Each set in player goes up and plays one song with the regulars. Very old country songs. Fun night. This hotel was built in the 1880s.

Up late this morning, Friday, and on the road. A storm is coming so we better move along. Destination will be South Dakota. Temp keeps dropping, rain is coming and possibly snow.
We have made it to Spearfish, SD. It is on the edge of the Badlands and near Deadwood. Elkhorn Ridge Resort.  Quite the rv place. Rain has started tonight. Snow possibly tomorrow. Thank goodness this is a beautiful stopping spot.
